LDS Garment Care

Caring For LDS Garments

The temple garment is an important part of the LDS faith.  It is a constant reminder of the covenants made in the temple and should be treated with respect at all times.  So many want to make sure it remains white and free of stains.  But it is important to note that not all LDS Garments are made equal.  Many are actually gray fabric that has been dyed white.  The garments also come in many different fabric types.  Knowing the fabric that your garment is made of will make a difference in caring for them properly and keeping them white.

Microfiber Polyester and Spandex
If your garment is made of mostly microfiber polyester with a little bit of spandex, you should machine wash it in cold water on the delicate cycle.  Do not use fabric softener.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry on low heat.

100% Nylon, Cotton-Poly Jersey, or Thermax
If your garment is made of 100% nylon, made of a cotton-polyester blend jersey, or is the Thermax kind, you should machine wash it in warm water on the permanent press cycle.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using medium heat on the permanent press cycle.

Cotton-Poly Rib Knit
If your garment is made of a cotton-polyester blend knit, you should machine wash it in warm water on the normal cycle.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using medium heat on the permanent press cycle.

100% Cotton
If your garment is made of 100% cotton, you should machine wash it in cool water on the permanent press cycle.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using medium heat on the normal cycle.

Dri Lux
If you have the Dri Lux garment, you should machine wash it in warm water on the gentle cycle.  Do not use fabric softener.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using medium heat.

DriSilque
If you have the DriSilque garment, which is made of nylon, you should machine wash it in cool water on the gentle cycle.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using low heat on the delicate cycle.

Stretch Cotton or Stretch Polyester Mesh
If your garment is made of mostly cotton with a little bit of spandex, or mostly polyester with a little bit of spandex, you should machine wash it in cold water on the gentle cycle, or hand wash.  If you need to whiten, use a non-chlorine bleach such as OxiClean or Clorox 2.  Do not use chlorine bleach, as this can cause your garment to yellow.  Tumble dry using low heat and remove promptly, or hang dry.  Do not iron, and do not dry clean.

Treating Stains
If you need to treat a stain on your garment, Shout is a good stain treater.  Oxi Clean 4-in-1 one gel and Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover are other good stain treaters.
